Cherry Pulling Head Selector

Your Cherry rivet in, the pulling head, adapter and riveter out.

About this calculator

A blind rivet goes in with a riveter and a pulling head made for that rivet family and diameter, and sometimes an adapter. Type the rivet part number (CR, NAS9301–9312 or ASNA0077/0078) or pick the fastener, then your riveter and the access you have. The selector returns the head, the adapter and the grip limit straight from Cherry's own tool catalogue, shown with Cherry's own catalogue photographs of the riveter, the adapter and the head.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is pre-filled. Look up by rivet (which head, adapter and grip limit for your rivet and riveter) or by pulling head (what it installs as supplied, how to reconfigure it with Table 1, its riveters, parts list and exploded view). Every head links to Cherry's official tool sheet and every riveter to its manual. Download the result as a PDF sheet.

Where the pairings come from

Every pairing comes from Cherry Aerospace's Tool Catalog CA-1001: the Section 1 pulling head table (page 6), the G83A/G84 pulling heads (page 8), the double-action CherryLOCK heads (pages 12–15), the G800 heads (page 19) and the riveter adapter table (page 22).

Mounting systems decide the adapter. The G704B, G747, G746A and G800 take the CherryMAX mounting system directly (H701B, H747, H753A, H781A, H782). The G83A and G84 use a bayonet mount and need the 744-300 adapter (bayonet removed) for those heads; the double-action G700, G784, G689 and G686B-S need 680B205. The G715 system (H9015 nut-plate rivet heads) needs 704A9 on the Section 1 riveters.

Grip capability is a riveter limit, not a head limit. CA-1001 page 6 lists the largest grip each Section 1 riveter installs in one stroke: CherryMAX 'AB' and CherryLOCK 'A' up to -05 on the G704B, -04 on the G747 and -09 on the G746A. Grip capability may be extended by double stroking.

Stroke and pulling force are the catalogue specifications at 90 psi (G747 from its tool manual TM-G747: 0.437 in, 2,100 lb).

The photographs are Cherry Aerospace's own, from the Tool Catalog CA-1001 and the pulling head tool sheets. Head dimensions under each photo are the ones CA-1001 prints (for example H753A-456: 5-7/16 × 2-1/4 in).

Worked example

CR3213-5-04 (CherryMAX, 5/32 in, universal head) with a G747, in a corner where a straight head will not reach.

  1. CR3213 = CherryMAX; -5 = 5/32 in; -04 = grip 4/16 in.
  2. The G747 takes the CherryMAX mounting system directly: no adapter (CA-1001 p. 22).
  3. Right angle access: the CherryMAX right angle head is H753A-456, for -4, -5 and -6 (CA-1001 p. 6).
  4. Grip: plain CherryMAX installs in all grips on the G747; the -04 limit applies only to 'AB' and CherryLOCK 'A'.

H753A-456 right angle head, mounted directly on the G747. If the nose needs more reach, 753B21 extends it by 2-3/16 in.

Limits — when NOT to use this

  • Cherry's tooling documentation governs. Check the head and nosepiece against the tool manual and the rivet's process specification.
  • The catalogue tables are not the whole list. Cherry's individual pulling head tool sheets list more nosepieces and configurations (CA-1001 p. 6, note 1).
  • Other brands (Gage Bilt, Huck) and Airbus part numbers are not covered yet.

Questions people actually ask

Does an oversize CherryMAX need a different head?

No. Cherry's CherryMAX catalogue CA-1011 states that one pulling head installs 1/8, 5/32 and 3/16 in rivets in nominal and oversize diameters (oversize = 1/64 in over nominal), in protruding, 100° flush, 100° flush shear, Unisink and 120° flush head styles, and all CherryMAX grip lengths. Oversize CherryMAX are the CR3242/CR3243 series (CA-1015).
