About this calculator

Type a part number or paste a whole list. Each line comes back with its status: exact, alternative, substitute or no data, and the next step. What the part is and what can be installed is the decoder's question; this one answers where to buy it.

Runs in your browser. The list is saved in this browser only, and it stays when you move to the decoder and back.

How the status and the lists are made

Which tool. Use the Cross-Reference & Decoder to learn what a number is and what can be installed. Use this finder to learn where to buy it. Both carry the number across.

Exact part number. The number you typed and nothing else. Case, spaces and the written forms of one number are read as one (CR3213-4-2 is CR3213-4-02), but a similar, partial or longer number never counts.

Exact alternatives. The same part under another number, from the links in the part number decoder: a standard, a maker's table or a shared NSN.

Substitutes. The options of the decoder's What you can install instead table: oversize, next size, NAS1097, repair rivets and washers. An alternate only a distributor lists, or a similar number, sits here too, marked to confirm. These are different parts until the manual or engineering says otherwise.

Crossing a list. Once distributors are listed, each line goes to a distributor that holds its number or the same part under another number, and the list is grouped into the fewest distributors, by zone or worldwide. Pick a distributor on any line and the rest regroups around it.

Status of a line. Exact, alternative, substitute or no data: the best step of the three lists the number reaches. With distributors, a step counts when one of them lists a number on it. While distributors are coming soon, it counts when our sources read the number, which says nothing about stock.

Pasting a list. One or several numbers a line, with the quantity before or after, as they leave a spreadsheet, an email or a work order. Other columns are ignored, repeats add up, and matching stays exact after normalising.

Limits — when NOT to use this

  • An alternative is not an approval. It is a link a source prints. The SRM, IPC or drawing decides what may be fitted.
  • A listing is not stock on the shelf. Price, quantity and delivery are on the seller's own page.
  • Not a traceability check. Certificates and batch records stay between you and the seller.
