Fastener Cross-Reference Chart

AN960 became NAS1149, AN470 became MS20470, and MS20426 became NASM20426. This chart lists the crosses that standards and notices document, with the status of each and a link to the decoder. MS20470 is not NAS1097: one is a universal head, the other a reduced countersunk head.

Not every look-alike is a cross. MS20470 is not NAS1097. MS20470 is a universal-head rivet; NAS1097 is a 100° countersunk rivet with a reduced head. They do not replace each other. A cross appears here only where a standard's own notice, interchangeability table or listing states it.

How to read the status

Where to buy

Superseded means the standard on the left was replaced by the one on the right, and new stock is ordered under the right-hand number. Adopted as NASM means the Air Force-Navy MS standard was cancelled and re-issued as a NASM standard of the same number; the notices say what changed, if anything.

The right-hand column does not say the parts are interchangeable on your aircraft. Where the drawing, IPC or SRM names a part number, that number governs. The decoder takes the old number you hold and shows the current one, the size, and the data sheet.

Worked example

The kit list says AN960-416 and the stockroom only has NAS1149 washers.

  1. Find AN960 in the washers table: cancelled, replaced by NAS1149.
  2. Type AN960-416 in the decoder: it gives the NAS1149 number for that size and finish, from the notice's substitution table.
  3. Check the drawing or IPC allows the NAS part, then order from the catalog.

Order the NAS1149 number the decoder shows, after the drawing check.

Questions people actually ask

Is MS20470 the same as NAS1097?

No. MS20470 has a universal head and NAS1097 a 100° reduced countersunk head. A countersunk MS rivet is MS20426, and NAS1097 is a separate standard (AC 43.13-1B Table 7-10).

Does "superseded" mean I can swap without checking?

No. The notice says what replaced what. Whether your aircraft accepts it depends on its drawing, IPC or SRM.

Why are distributor equivalents missing?

Only standards, notices and listings are used here. Distributor and NSN equivalents are in the data sheets, labelled by level.

Limits — when NOT to use this chart

What the sources support, and no further.

  • Common crosses only. Other series are in the data sheets; the AN3 to NASM3 bolt series is not covered here.
  • Status as of the notice or listing cited. A later revision may change it. Check the current issue.
  • The SRM and IPC govern where they name a part number.
